Mangalore, Jun 14: St Lawrence Higher Primary School in Bondel here will be holding its centenary year celebrations on Thursday June 14 at the school premises.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday June 12, school joint secretary Fr Antony Serrao said that as part of the centenary celebrations, the school has planned to organize a science exhibition and various competitions for the students. Alumni of the school who have excelled in their life will also be honoured on the occasion.
 
The school is also planning to bring out a souvenir to commemorate the centenary year and a full-fledged computer lab will be set up in the premises, he added.

The celebrations will be inaugurated by Catholic Education Board secretary
Fr Wilson D’Souza and St Lawrence Church parish priest Fr Antony Serrao will preside over the ceremony.

BEO Walter H D’Mello and corporator Hilda Alva will be the chief guests on the occasion.

Elaborating on the history of the school, Fr Serrao said that the school was started by Fr Frank Pereira of Milagres Church under the direction of Pascal Mascarenhas at a small house in Bangeruseeme in 1908. Later it was shifted to Haaluthota.

The shifting of the school premises to church compound at Bondel in 1917 was the next milestone in the school’s history, he said.
