Fingers of suspicion have been pointed at a group who had stayed in a lodge at B C Road for two days, providing a Coimbatore address of Coimbatore. This appears to the the handiwork of an organized gang, who are believed to have surveyed the locality beforehand.

Police teams have already visited several centres of the state for possible clues and to gather information on robberies and theft commited in a similar mode.

The police also suspect that a gang from northern Karnataka could be involved in the act. While gang appears to be certainly from outside the district, the police do not rule out the complicity of some locals by way providing key information on the working hours as also the geography of the location.
