Udupi, Jun 14: A complaint has been lodged with the deputy commissioner against Shree Lakshmiwarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor for swimming with a minor boy at Gangolli near here.

The Swamiji had swum with Harshith (12) in Gangolli river in the presence of hundreds of locals on Sunday June 10.

The district Makkala Kalyana Samiti (Child Welfare Committee) has lodged the complaint against the Swamiji alleging that he has used the boy to gain publicity, which is a crime punishable under the Juvenile Act. The Samiti urged the deputy commissioner to take action against him.

However, it was believed that the Swamiji aspired to swim because of the marvellous feat achieved by Harshith which prompted the local organizations to support the programme.
