Mangalore, Jun.17: The vigilance cell for detecting illegal connections (theft of electricity) of MESCOM, has detected a significant case, involving a major telecom provider, Airtel for tampering with the cables to provide electricity for their trasmission tower located at Marigudi, in Urwa, near here,on sunday Jun. 17.

The raid by the vigilance cell unearthed a huge loss of revenue to electricity department by Airtel. The MESCOM raiding officials led by Srikant, police inspector stated that, the illegal connection has been existing since the past one year.  They have been fined for Rs.4,000 including back billing for all those months which are to be borne by the telecom major.
