Navaneeth loses junior squash final

Tehran, Aug 27 (IANS): The lone hope of a gold medal that Navaneeth Prabhu provided at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship ended in disappointment on Thursday when the top seeded Indian lost to second seed A.M.A. Amirul of Malaysia 11-9, 6-11, 4-11, 10-12 in the Under-13 final here.

A Chettinad Vidyashram student and a trainee at the Indian Squash Academy, Navaneeth started off well but, saddled with pressure, he lacked in consistency.

Still Navaneeth had the pride of being the only Indian to enter the final in the championship, and had to be content with the silver.

In addition, India had a tally of four bronze medals through Tushar Shahani (boys U-15), Harshit Jawanda (girls U-19), Nikita Joshi (girls U-17) and Megha Bhatia (girls U-13). All of them lost in the semi-final stage.
