Roy Castelino welcomed the gathering and said “I am happy to see the congregation of a big crowd here. There are many academies in the state for the development of art, culture and language in the state. In fact Karnataka state has the highest number of academies. This is the only state where other languages than the state language are also encouraged. People and the artists should avail the facilities offered by the government for the enrichment of art and culture. Konkani academy has spent every rupee allocated to it in a right manner. In some cases, we have approved plans while waiting for funds. Because we do not want to postpone cultural activities,”

“Konkani Sahitya academy, in addition to the other works, is happy to help the artists in availing facilities available to them. Creating awareness among the artists is very important. We want all the Konkani artists to avail the facilities offered by the government. The process of taking applications from the artists will continue. A committee headed by Dolla Mangaluru will help the artists. People also can send the applications to the academy. We are trying our best to get a land for the Konkani academy to build its own office." Castelino added.

Tony Ruzai released the booklet which contained the information about the facilities the artists can get from the government.

Gopala Gowda invited the artists in a traditional manner by beating the drum to participate in the awareness programme.

Fr Cyprian, Tony Ruzai and Devdas Pai also spoke on the occasion.

Awareness to the Konkany artists as well as all the Konkany speaking people not only in Mangalore but throughoutn the world is essential. It is a sweet language applicable for few lakhs of people from Mangalore and Goa origin that are scattered throughout the world.

Display of Konkany language, konkany music and Konkan language related competitions are always useful so that the community survives with their mother tongue wherever we go and whatever we do.

The Persian Gulf region is the best area where so many languages actively flourish because the handful of people belonging to the Konkan region uphold their mother tongue and introduce variety of seasonal programs, including the Feast of Nativity as well as Xmas and Easter.

Such gatherings in Europe and America are not so easily possible because of so many obvious reasons. As much as we would like our children to promote the paternal or maternal mother tongue thru any group of native people is not an easy task. We have tried many times ever since we left the Persian Gulf region nearly 35 years ago, and the language of Konkany has only remained with the minds and hearts of both of us.

Now when we play many of the Konkany music thru the cd's for our grandson he appears to be curious to enjoy the music although we have no time to describe him the meaning of the lyrics. We have tons of Konkany music in the house, but the opportunity to display before the public the opportunities are very remote.

All said and done, mother tongue is a pride for every individual because it reminds of our origin and brings back all the memories of the past. So long as we try to keep the language alive thru our frequent private conversations, including our daily prayers, and so long as we try to place before the public whenever and wherever the time permitting, that's all it matters.

Vacation time in Mangalore is the best time to bring forward our Konkany language and remain proud of our heritage by nurturing it and loving it.

This is awesome. Konkani people of Mangaluru and all those who love Konkani use this opportunity to showcase your talents.
Goan theatre and music has reached unprecedented heights. There is so much demand, that there are more than 3 plays every day in every village and town. So many young people go abroad to places like Dubai, UK, Canada where there is a big Konkani community and get recognized for their talents.
Unless people take pride in their mother tongue and encourage their family and friends to contribute to Konkani nothing will happen.
The Konkani singing competition at Don Bosco two weeks back was simply fabulous. There were young people who were beyond par. They need your support and encouragement for the love and future of Konkani.
