Mangalore, Jul 5: The Met department has warned the district administration as well as residents of coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada of heavy rains coupled with storm in the next 48 hours.

The fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into sea for any reason in the next two days since there are likely chances of whirlwind lashing the coast at a speed of 45 to 50 kilometres per hours.

The state disaster management department secretary has instructed the deputy commissioner's of these districts to keep the concerned officials and departments on alert and also to establish control rooms in order to file reports at regular intervals.

Along with the safety measures, the secretary has also instructed the DCs to get ready with relief operations all along the coastal belt.

It has already been raining heavily in the coastal belt in the last 12 hours and dark clouds are still looming large over the skies throughout the district.
