Karkala, Jul 5: A man ended his life after attempting murder of his sister, niece and niece's daughter at Sanoor near here on Wednesday July 4.

Dayanand Poojary, a resident of Gandotti House in Sanoor assaulted his sister Susheela (55), her daughter Vijaya (28) and grand-daughter Poorva (2) after Susheela refused to give him money from the compensation she got from Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant.

Their family owned property in the proposed Nagarjuna thermal plant area.  Their land had been acquired by the company recently and the family was given Rs 3 lac as compensation. Dayanand, a bachelor who was a habitual drunkard had demanded his sister to give the money to him.

But as per the guidelines of her neighbours and family members Susheela had deposited the money into the bank as fixed deposit.  This had angered Dayanand further.  However, he was further enraged after Susheela's daughter Vijaya came home recently from Mumbai.  He could not overpower Susheela anymore.

On Wednesday afternoon he came home drunk and started quarreling with Susheela and Vijaya.  After a little while he assaulted Susheela, Vijaya and her 2-year-old daughter Poorva with sickle.  They were later shifted to a private hospital here where they are now being treated.

However, Dayanand was found hanging from the tree in the nearby woods on Thursday July 5 morning.
