Mangalore, Jul 20: Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District Bidi Workers’ Welfare Forum will stage a massive protest rally on Friday July 27, said Nagarika Seva Trust convenor Somanatha Naik, addressing media persons here on Friday July 20.
 
The DA which has been due since the financial year 1997-98 should have been paid to bidi workers as it was decided to be paid at the meeting held in the presence of joint labor commissioner and state reconciliation officer on Jan 31, 2007. The due of Rs 4,500 should have been paid by June 30, but has still not been paid, he said.
 
The protest rally will be held in front of the Deputy Labour Commissioner’s office, in order to protest against the exploitation by the bidi company owners.
 
The forum has also indicated that they would aggravate the protest if their protest does not heed the desired result.
 
K Sadashiva Shetty, Mohammad Rafiq, Vishwanatha Shetty and P Hemavathi were present at the press conference.
