Karkala, Jul 20: Applications have been invited for the scholarships from the students belonging to the Bidi labourers’ families and mining workers by the labour welfare department, government of India for the year 2007 and 08. 

The scholarship is applied to the students from class 1 to post graduation and technical courses.  The scholarship is from Rs 250 to Rs 8,000 and the monthly income of these families should not exceed Rs 10,000, stated a press note. 

Students cannot apply for the scholarships directly and the applications should be submitted through school boards to commissioner, welfare department, No 6-7-12, Second Floor, Crescent Cross, Kumara Park (E), Bangalore, according to a press release.

The condition applied is that the students must not get other scholarships. The headmaster or headmistress should furnish the applications with the details such as class of studying, marks obtained and other details to the welfare department. 

Repeaters are not allowed to apply. The applications should be submitted in the prescribed format. The applications and prescribed formats will be available in the Beedi Karmikara Asphatrere (Hospital of Bidi workers), Taluk Office Road, Karkala at the office timings, stated in the press release.
