Comedian Innocent responding well to cancer treatment

Kochi, Oct 6 (IANS): Ace comedian Innocent, who is Lok Sabha member from Chalakudy constituency in Kerala and is undergoing chemotherapy in New Delhi, is responding well to the treatment, said his doctor.

In August this year, there was a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma disease reactivation and he was advised a six-course chemotherapy session, cancer specialist V.P. Gangadharan, under whom Innocent began the treatment in 2012, said while speaking to IANS.

"He has completed three courses of chemotherapy and has been asked to take complete rest. Innocent has three more courses to undergo and he should be fine by the coming year," said Gangadharan.

Innocent began his career as a film producer in the early '70s. In the mid-'80s, he clicked as an actor and has worked in more than 500 films since then.

"I spoke to Innocent today (Tuesday) morning and he is hale and hearty and his usual self," said Gangadharan.

Since August after a relapse of the disease, Innocent, 66, is in New Delhi and has taken a break from his profession.

Innocent was recently re-elected as the president of AMMA -- an organisation of the Malayalam film actors -- a post that he has held since 2000.

He was supported by the CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) as an Independent candidate from the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency last year, and defeated Congress leader P.C. Chacko.
