We live by the riverside which is hardly 25 meters from our house. Our parents taught us swimming when I was 5 years old.Even my sisters learnt swimming at an young age..But now a days I see our neighbours are not teaching their kids this essential skill fearing that if they learn swimming they will go in the water..What a change in mentality over the years..To challenge them I have taught swimming to my kids at the age of 4 and 6 ....how about not learning driving for the fear of accidents ???

    Dear Rajesh,

If not learnt at all then definitely afraid to go inside in the water, mean prevention is better than cure.
I think in this matter you are right. One should know the art and stick to limitations.

Every day we see young boys and girls dying while trying to swim in ponds, rivers, seas. Yet there is no awareness by the media. This issue should be highlighted in all public places so that people are aware of the dangers of swimming. Parents should warn children not to go in the waters without adult supervision.
