Ajman: GMU Observes World Osteoporosis Day

Media Release

Ajman, Oct 26: Students of Gulf Medical University, Ajman marked World Osteoporosis Day with a variety of activities on Thursday 22.

The programs started with an introductory lecture and the importance of World Osteoporosis Day. This was followed by exercises and fitness demonstrations related to bone strength. Games and contests were also conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners. Students also organized an informative presentation outlining the causes, incidences, preventive measures and treatments of osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis occurs when the struts which make up the mesh-like structure within the bones become thin, causing bones to become fragile and break easily, often following a minor bump or fall. World Osteoporosis Day is observed annually on October 20, launching a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
