Figo calls for support for Infantino in FIFA elections

Lisbon, Oct 30 (IANS): Portuguese football legend Luis Figo on Friday called for support for Swiss Gianni Infantino in his FIFA presidential bid for his "experience, competence, hard work and honesty".

Figo announced his support for Infantino, and urged all voters to support him during the upcoming FIFA presidential elections, which will be held on February 26 in Switzerland, reports Efe.

The Real Madrid, Barcelona icon on his official Facebook page wrote: "Gianni Infantino knows football inside out and his experience, competence, hard work and honesty make him the best candidate for the FIFA presidency."

"He brings a new style and approach to a process that needs transparency and debate of ideas instead of mere political moves and personal attacks."

"I know him for some years and we had the opportunity to exchange a lot of thoughts when I was a candidate myself. We share the same vision and have several projects and ideas in common," the former Portugal captain explained.

Infantino will be facing other candidates in the FIFA race, including Jerome Champagne, Ali Bin Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Tokyo Sexwale and Musa Bility.
