Media Release

Oman, Nov 10: After a successful quiz competition last month, in which 30 teams contested for top honours, Mangalorean Catholic Centre of Parish (MCCP), Muscat is now all set to organise their next major event 'Sports Day' on November 13.

Sports Day is the most avidly awaited event among the Mangalurean community in Oman as it provides a platform for all the members of the family to showcase their talents in various outdoor games. Of course, the most popular among them is cricket which always attracts a large number of very enthusiastic participants. This year too considering the high demand, the executive committee has decided to widen the scope of competition in cricket by having four categories namely mens, seniors, ladies and children. Participants will compete for winners and runners-up trophies in each category.

Besides cricket, there will be volleyball for men, throwball for ladies and tele-games for children. All games will be conducted simultaneously at the grounds of Muscat Sports Complex, Wadi Kabir, which will create an atmosphere of tremendous energy and continuous action.

To enhance the fun and frolic among spectators, there will be a live commentary and a cricket quiz. The entire day's event will be conducted by the eminent duo sports personality of the community Suraj Rebello and Dolly Gomes. John Gonsalves, the president along with the members of the executive committee of MCCP, is highly elated about sports day considering the preparation and the strong response from all the members. He said that this day will surely be an enjoyable day for all, due to its high voltage excitement and entertainment. He also urged all the members to participate in in all the games in large numbers and to take a chance in walking away from this once-a-year event with medals and trophies.

The programme will begin at 10.00 am with registration of all participants followed by team formations. It will be a daylong event, ending with prize distribution in the evening. The executive committee has ensured provision of a sumptuous breakfast, lunch and snacks to add to the joy and festivity of the event.
