Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 28: St Joseph parishioners, Jeppu along with The Expressions Group, Udupi are gearing up for another awe-inspiring vocal music competition, which will bring together 28 talented contestants of both Mangaluru and Udupi dioceses and 3 distinguished judges for an evening of excitement and dazzling performances.

The grand finale of the inter-diocese singing competition in memory of Wilfy Rebimbus will be held at 5 pm on Sunday November 29 at Infant Mary School Grounds, Jeppu. The contestants will perform songs of the legend Wilfy Rebimbus as they compete for the prestigious Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Trophy. The qualifying rounds were held in Udupi and Mangaluru in the month of October.

The contest promises to be a tough battle between both the dioceses with rendition of most of Wilfy’s best songs. The compare for the evening will be Cyril Gregory Sequeira, popularly known as C G S Taccode.

Fr Nelson Dalmeida, parish priest of Jeppu said, "Fr Nelson Dalmeida, parish priest, Jeppu said, "We are marching forward strongly and this year we have spread our wings to the Udupi diocese as a mark of tribute to our dear Wilfyaab during his 5th death anniversary year. We are happy to have The Expressions group from Udupi diocese who have joined us this year and organized the semi-finals in Udupi. As with previous competitions, we are confident that those who attend will have full entertainment and will be moved with not only the quality of the performances but as always the powerful lyrics and tunes composed by the legend. Along with my entire parish I am grateful to all those who have supported this great event from the last 4 years, the parish priests of all the parishes, the participants and most of all the wonderful audiences who have patted us on our back year after year and encouraged us to move ahead.

"The judgment will be based on the day’s performance of the singer and purely on their singing and performance. We have selected the best of the best judges who have been associated with Konkani music and Wilfy Rebimbus. Their experience in the music field is tremendous and surely the best singer and performer of the day will grab the title. We wish all the finalists every best in the grand finale," he added.

The eminent judges for the finals are Fr Valerian Mendonca, Wilson Oliver and Alwyn Noronha, Bajpe.

This event will raise funds for the medical and educational needs of the less fortunate parishioners. There will be a wide range of entertainment and dances by the Jeppu parishioners. The event will start at sharp 5 pm. As entry is free, the organizers have requested the audiences to come on time and occupy their seats.

Fr Nelson D’Almeida has appealed to all Wilfy fans and generous people to come forward and be a part of this celebration as an honor to this great singing legend.
