Dubai: Thumbay Moideen wins 'Indian Innovator Award'

Dubai, Dec 11: Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Thumbay group has been distinguished as an Innovator in the education category for this year’s Indian Innovator Award, Entrepreneur of The Year.


The award was presented by BNC Publishing, a part of the Entrepreneur Mena franchise, in a glittering ceremony at Jumeirah Golf Estates, in the city on December 7. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, vice president of the healthcare division of Thumbay group received the award on behalf of the founder president. Thumbay Moideen was honored among other Indian innovators who, according to the awards committee, have established themselves as clear industry leaders who have made significant contributions to the Middle East business arena, and set the benchmark for corporations operating across the region.

From humble beginnings in 1998 when Thumbay Moideen, the visionary educationist and third generation entrepreneur from India migrated to the UAE, almost two decades since its inception, today, the Thumbay group under his presidency has grown into an international business conglomerate headquartered in the UAE. The group has activities spanning 13 different verticals including health, education, medical research, diagnostics, retail pharmacy, health communications, information technology, retail opticals, wellness, hospitality, trading, distribution and real estate.

Thumbay group today employs more than 3000 people, with another 3000 expected to be added, once ongoing projects are completed. Its hospitals treat over 2500 patients daily, from over 175 countries. Thumbay group’s Gulf Medical University, the highest in demand private medical university in the UAE attracts a student cohort of over 73 nationalities and faculty/staff from over 22 countries. Apart from being the first medical institution in the region which offers admissions to both boys and girls of all nationalities, the Gulf Medical University has also earned a reputation of providing programs that have been introduced in the region for the first time.
