Sullia, Feb 13: In connection with the death of Jayaram Naik from Mudadka in Kudurepaya in Kodagu district in a freak accident which occurred during the fish hunting trip of some friends recently, policemen from the town station have arrested two persons.

Jayaram Naik, working as supervisor in a plantation at Challangaya, his brother, Harish Naik Kuddurepaya, Venugopal Kudurepaya and Harish Patrakody had visited the Mapalakaje rivulet together late night on Tuesday for hunting fish. Jayaram and another were hunting fish downstream of the rivulet, when unknown people who fired at him from a nearby forest reportedly accounted for Jayaram's life.

Jayaram's companions had brought his body back and placed it in his plantation. During interrogation by police, they said that Jayaram was hit by a bullet fired by another gang, identity of which was unknown. As there were deficiencies and variations in their individual statements, they were subjected to detailed questioning.

Ramachandra from Challangaya was arrested on Wednesday night from his house based on concrete information collected by the police. Another man, Vishwanath, was taken into custody from Halembi on Thursday. It is said that both of them have confessed that a stray bullet fired by them had hit Jayaram. As such, the four persons, who had earlier been arrested, have been released.

The police personnel are trying to determine whether this death was accidental or deliberate.
