Moodbidri, Sep 18: A Konkani library was inaugurated at Alangar church, here recently.

Inaugurating the library, Vally Vagga, said “In Kannada and other languages there are enough libraries. Hence people usually do not buy the books. They read them directly from the libraries.”

But the situation in Konkani is different. We do not have enough libraries. Also people find it too expensive to buy the books of their tastes. Hence the published books do not get a good market, he added.

The Konkani library was installed with the leadership of Indian Catholic Youth Movement. Now the library functions in a small room but later there are plans to move it to a separate building, said Vincent D'Souza, president.

Vally Quadros donated the first book to the library. Antony Rodrigues compered the programme. Praveen Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.

Fr Vincent D'Souza, parish priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Alangar is the motivator for this project.
