Nigeria coach vows to crush Egypt in AFCON qualifier

Abuja (Nigeria), March 10 (IANS): Interim head coach of Nigeria's national footbal team Samson Siasia said he plans to crush Egypt with goals when the two nations meet twice in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier later this month.

Siasia said his plan may not be impossible, noting the feat was achieved in 1977 when Nigeria thrashed Egypt 4-0 in a world cup qualifier played at home, in the southwestern state of Lagos, reports Xinhua.

"We can recreate Oct. 1977; why not?" the coach said on Wednesday while fielding questions from reporters here.

"We have invited the players who are capable of getting the job done," he added.

Nigeria are two points behind the Egyptians on the Group G table of the African Cup of Nations qualifier, with the Pharaohs having eight goals already while the Super Eagles have only scored two goals.

The two teams will first meet in Nigeria on March 25 before proceeding for a second leg in Egypt on March 29.
