Sullia, Mar 15: "The government will disburse compensation to the family of IAS officer, D K Ravi, who died a year ago, once we get confirmation about the cause of his death. The case is being investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation. Once the investigation report is received, we will come to know about the cause of his death, and accordingly, quantum of compensation can be decided upon. At present, there is confusion within the government departments about the provisions under which compensation can be disbursed to the family. Our government is with the distressed family during their times of crisis," said state home minister, Dr G Parameshwar.

He was speaking to media persons during his visit to Lord Subrahmanya temple at Subrahmanya in the taluk on Monday March 14. The minister, who arrived at the temple along with his wife, offered the service of Naga Pratishta and Shesha Seve to the presiding deity.

The minister concurred that a large number of police stations in the state suffer from lack of infrastructure and shortage of personnel. "We have been trying to improve the situation by using advanced technologies and recruiting personnel. The department will take steps to upgrade Subrahmanya police station and provide additional personnel to it," he explained.

Parameshwar said that because of elections which followed one another, the issue of making appointments of chairpersons to boards and corporations had to be put on hold. He stated that all the elections have come to an end now, and the chief minister would be taking steps to fill these vacancies after the budget session of the state assembly.

He asserted that the government has been giving impetus to the scheme of social upliftment of families living in naxal-infested areas. He promised to instruct the officials to provide facilities to five families from Halligadde village, which were visited by some naxals recently. Asserting that the government is firm on executing Yettinahole project to feed people and cattle suffering from shortage of water, he requested people of Dakshina Kannada to view the issue from humanitarian angle and cooperate with the people of parched districts. "In these districts, it is impossible to get water even after digging deep borewells. Even where some water is available, because of high fluoride content, it is not potable. The people of these districts are facing a crisis, and I request you to come to their rescue," he requested. He promised that this project will not harm Dakshina Kannada district in any way.
