Govt sanctions Rs 50 lac to each constituency for water scarcity

Mangaluru, Mar 27: “Give importance to drinking water scarcity in the district. When the complaints are received on drinking water problems, take up necessary measures to provide water to people by digging bore-well or provide tanker facilities. To solve the drinking water problem, government has sanctioned Rs 50 lac to each constituency of Dakshina Kannada,” said district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai.







He was speaking in the meeting held to discuss drinking water scarcity in the district at DC office here on Saturday March 26.

“This is a crucial session when all departments should be alert and deal with drinking water problem collectively. In MCC limits commissioner should take initiative and solve the problem. If need be, provide water with tankers.”

Officers also informed to Rai about the acute drinking water problem in Konaje, Assaigoli, Mannabettu of Mangaore taluk and zilla panchayat limits. Water is being provided by tankers to places such as Nariganan, Belapuni and Kavalapadu of Bantwal constituency.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner said, “There is sufficient water in Tumbe dam. The water will be released from AMR dam to the main dam on Monday evening
after informing the locals. The available water in Tumbe dam could meet the demands
of city.”

Speaking about sand shortage in district, Rai said, “The union ministry of environment has given clearance to mine sand in the CRZ area. Within the next five days a meeting will be called and by April 10 provisions will made to mine sand in CRZ area.”

Speaking about shortage of sand, deputy commissioner said, “I have asked superintendent engineer to take sand exclusive meant for the MCC works but it has not been done. By March 27 evening, I have asked the engineer to come up with a concrete plan. By tomorrow morning, MCC officers should have enough sand.”

Tourism department along with district administration will host ‘Mangalore Day Out’ in city on April 17 from morning to night. The road from Lalbagh to Lady Hill will be closed. Exhibition of art, culture and folk will take the centre stage during the event.

State minister Abaychandra Jain, MLA Moideen Bhava, Ibrahim kodijjal and ZP CEO Shrividhya among others were present during the meeting.
