Bantwal, Oct 3: The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with splendour, in various parts of the taluk on Tuesday October 2.

Gandhi Jayanthi was observed at Narsha Government High School in Kolnad village, in a special way. The students of high school actively participated in the celebration amidst mid-term exam pressure. The students read Holy verses from Quran, Bhagavad-Gita and Bible and sung Gandhiji's Ram Bhajans. Teacher Abdul Razak and journo Mounesh Vishwakarma delivered the message. Headmaster Ramesh Nayak presided over the function. 

Achyut Bhat welcomed the gathering. Abdul Rafiq proposed vote of thanks. Ramesh compered the programme.

Elsewhere the Bantwal block Congress observed Gandhi Jayanthi, at their party office on Tuesday, October 2. Block president Padmashekhar Jain presided over the function. Congress leaders Kanchalakshi, Sadananda Navoor, Rajesh Rodrigues and others were present on this occasion.

Panemangalore block Congress observed Gandhi Jayanthi at B C Road on Tuesday October 2. Block Congress president Padmanabha Rai presided over the function.

At the same time, cleanliness campaign was organized at Kavalapadur Higher Primary School. Taluk panchayat president Chandrahas Shetty Bolantur inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion he said that cleanliness drive in the villages can help in maintaining good health among the villagers.

Zilla panchayat member Tungappa Bangera, taluk panchayat member Shalini Jain, Gram panchayat president Manikyaraj Jain and others were present at the function.
