Mangalore, Oct 5: The department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Father Muller Medical College will hold World bone and joint week celebrations from October 12 to October 20, Dr Edward L Nazareth of department of Orthopaedic Surgery said at the press conference here on Thursday October 4. 

Musculo-skeletal conditions are most common causes of severe long term pain and physical disability, affecting hundreds of million of people across the world, he emphasized. 

As the part of the celebration, department of Orthopaedic Surgery, FMCC, has planned many programmes from October 12 to October 20, Dr P Mahabala Rai, Prof and HoD, department of Orthopaedic Surgery said. 

He further said that exhibition will be held from October 12 to October 14 to make people aware of prevention and treatment options of various Musculo-skeletal problems, a free arthritis check-up and joint replacement camp will be held on October 13.  

Detailing about other programmes planned for the week, he said that ACME programme will be held for the general practitioners of Mangalore and surrounding areas on October 14. Free check-up camp for backache will be held on October 15 and October 16. 

Bone densitometry camp for the detection of Osteoporosis will be held on October 17, 18 and October 19. The camp is said to be useful for women who are above 40 years, the HoD said. 

Dr B Sachidanda Rai of department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr Jacob Chaco and Dr Alfred Aranha were present at the press conference.
