Concacaf implements pilot programme in Nicaragua

Managua, April 8 (IANS): The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) is implementing a soccer pilot programme in Nicaragua.

According to Nicaragua's daily "19 Digital", on Thursday Hugo Salvedo, Concacaf's director of sports development, said the institution is making progress in the implementation of a soccer programme in the Central American country, reports Xinhua.

Salvedo held a meeting in Managua with officials from Nicaragua's Education Ministry, the Nicaraguan Sports Institute, the Nicaraguan Football Federation (Fenifut) and Managua's City Hall.

Salvedo said Concacaf was extending the FIFA project which was implemented before in European and African countries with very good results.

"It is a great opportunity for Nicaragua to develop soccer, a sport with great acceptance and growth," said Salvedo.

Feniput president Jacinto Reyes highlighted the importance of the joint work to make this programme a success in Nicaraguan schools, especially in Managua.
