Padubidri-born gymnast Nivedan Shetty electrocuted during Mumbai train travel

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Apr 11: A gymnastic trainer, Nivedan Gunakar Shetty (40), died after he was electrocuted during travel atop the roof of a local train on the night of Friday April 8. The incident occurred at Dombivli station, Mumbai.

Padubidri Alangaruguthu Nivadan Gunakar Shetty was a resident of Gulzar Apartment at Jagruti Nagar in suburban Kurla. Shetty, second son of the late Gunakar Shetty from Nanayyara Garadi House in Pangala, was unmarried. He was a gifted gymnast, and was working as a professional trainer at Singapore.

Shetty was on a visit to the country on a two-week holiday, and had arrived in Mumbai four days back. He had climbed up a train to return to Dadar after delivering a parcel to a friend ad Dombivli, when tragedy struck. His elder brother, Nishchal Shetty had lost his life in a road accident near Kaup during December 2015, and his family was yet to come to terms with this tragedy, when it was hit by another one. Nivedan could not attend the funeral of Nishchal as he could not get leave.

About six lac people had gathered at Shivaji Park for the 'Gudi Padwa' celebration on Friday organized by Raj Thackeray. As such, there was unprecedented rush in the local trains, and Nivedan, who found it impossible to enter the compartment of the train because of his unusual height (6'3"), decided to travel atop the compartment.

People saw Shetty turning into a fireball after coming in contact with 24,000 volts overhead power cable at Dombivli station. Railway protection police of Dombvli immediately disconnected power supply and brought Shetty down from the roof. Although he was rushed to nearby hospital at Shastri Nagar in Dombivli, the doctors there declared him brought dead, policemen said.

Nivedan had completed his BCom degree through Vijaya College Mulky. He had attractive bodily features since a young age. In between doing hotel business at Mumbai and Belagavi, he kept his desire to be a part of silver screen alive. He was seen in along with Vinod Raj in 'Kannadada Kanda' movie. Because of his affectionate and gentle behaviour, he had been a family friend of Vinod Raj, Leelavathi, Shivraj Kumar, Pueet Rajkumar etc. He was close to Muttappa Rai and was involved with Jaya Karnataka organization promoted by Rai.

Nivedan came to Mumbai to make it his home and try to enter Bollywood. A well-wisher, who is a gymnast, had sent him to Singapore on two-year contract as gymnasium trainer six months back.

Railway police have registered a case. Investigation is on.

I am a regular traveller from dombivli and every day i feel the difficulty to enter the train. hence I used to go back one station to
catch the train which is less rush and safe. It was nivedan's badluck. May his soul rest in peace.

He must have thought its like sitting on top of the bus with carrier to support. At least people should have alerted him of the danger. Alas, too late to realize. Two grown up sons perishing within six months. Isn't that bad omen? Looks like the family is going through a bad phase.
God give strength and courage to the parents and dear and near ones to bear the loss of their loved one. So sad.

Dombivli is a town on the outskirts of Bombay jurisdiction and lacks metropolis like services. Therefore Ola taxi service for the time being has not yet commenced. I understand these services (if any) are plying to suburban New Bombay, Vashi Panvel etc. etc.

Life is precious. Parents look forward to grown up children for help in old age. A son/daughter who remains indebted to parents for life, do not play around with their life despite knowing that the roof top of a train is connected to high tension wires.

Nothing brings Nivedan back. All I can say is, RIP Nivedan, and may God grant solace to the grieving family members.

Life is precious. but now a days Parents must not look forward to grown up children for help in old age, because now a days children will depend upon parents until they start earning than they want independent life of their own.
    RIP Nivedan Shetty.

None to blame over here than the deceased himself. Being educated, how could he risk his life, though knowing that travel atop the train is a dangerous feat. I feel sorry for his parents for having loosing this young boy, while they were still to over come the tragedy of loosing the elder son. May the departed soul rest in peace and god gives the strength to the parents of the deceased to bear this big loss.
