KPCC appeals to trade, industry, film personalities to do their bit for drought relief

Bengaluru, Apr 26: In the wake of severe drought across the State, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has appealed to all IT and BT companies, multinational firms, industrialists, civic organizations, film fraternity and seers of various religious mutts to voluntary come forward to donate funds for undertaking relief works in drought hit areas of the State.

In a statement to the press in Bengaluru on Tuesday, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwara said Dharmasthala Dharmadikari Veerendra Hegde has contributed Rs 1 crore towards undertaking relief works in drought hit villages.

The companies located in Karnataka should respond to the grievances of people in drought hit taluks, he said.

The State Government has formed four cabinet sub-committees and members of committees have been touring districts to oversee the implementation of relief works. 

He said the State Government would lead an-all party delegation to the Centre requesting the latter to release more funds to the State, Dr Parameshwara, who also holds the Home portfolio, said.

The KPCC president said the Opposition should refrain from politicising the drought issue and concerned efforts should be made to respond to the drinking water requirements of the people and fodder requirement of domestic animals.
