Bengaluru, May 5: Senior Congress leader and former Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna advised politicians not to take criticism personally but sportively.

Speaking at a function after releasing the book, ``The Talking Shop,’’ written by former minister and former Mysuru-Kodagu MP, H Vishwanath, in Bengaluru on Thursday, the former chief minister said politicians must develop the habit of giving up political rivalry once bitterly fought elections were completed. 

Krishna said: ``There is no permanent rivalry in politics. But we continue to criticise and develop political animosity against our rival election candidates throughout our life, which is not correct.’’ 

Recalling ups and downs in his political career, Krishna said he got promotions in politics soon after electoral defeats in the past. 

Politicians should be ready for handshake and developing rivalry throughout the life was not good, he said.

Just before the release of the book, a person named Shivaramu, said to a Kuruba leader and loyalist of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, raised slogans against Vishwanath accusing him of being a cheat (420).  

The supporters of Vishwanath were quick to retaliate and thrashed as well as dragged Shivaramu out of the venue. 

However, the book release function went off peacefully.
