Mangalore, Nov 12:
"We are in a competitive world today and it is necessary that we equip ourselves with multiple talents and abilities, to succeed in life. In this context, the efforts of Sandesha in providing students with opportunities, to develop their talents through activities like ‘Kalotsav’ are praiseworthy," said Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore here on Monday November 12.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Kalotsav ‘07’ organized by Sandesha Lalit Kala Academy from Monday November 12 to Saturday November 17.

Bishop Fr Aloysius, who is also the chairman of Sandesha Arts Foundation, praised the parents and the heads of school and colleges for encouraging the students, to take part in these competitions.

Fr Francis Lewis, director, in his introductory address, said that the state-level ‘Kalotsav ‘07’, is a children’s festival of arts and communication skills rather than a competition which is intended to promote children and to inculcate in them, human values like patriotism, environmental awareness, respect for elders, communal harmony and brotherhood.

Competition is just a platform where children can exhibit their talents. Announcing winners is not top priority of the institution, rather encouraging children to be competent and confident, in short providing an opportunity where they can mingle with other children, Leo D'Souza, manager, Sandesha College of Fine Arts said, while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.

UT Khader, MLA, Ullal constituency, who was the chief guest appreciated the efforts of Sandesha for undertaking several activities like ‘Kalotsav’ for the betterment of the society and promised his support to Sandesha in its work.

Such contests and competitions would inspire students, to take up fine arts as their full time vocation, Vani Rajgopal, principal, Sandesha School of Fine Arts opined.

Earlier, the students of Sandesha Lalit Kala Vidyalaya, performed an invocation dance. P M Castellino, trustee, Sandesha proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Kavitha Rai compered the programme.

On the first day, there were competitions in classical dance with 19 participants from the higher primary, 13 from high school and 4 from PUC. In the afternoon there were drawing competitions with 59 entries.

On Tuesday November 13, western singing (solo) and keyboard (solo) competitions will be held.
