IOC strips Turkish weightlifter of 2008 silver

Lausanne, Jul 23 (IANS): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced it ordered Turkish weightlifter Sibel Ozkan to return the sliver medal she won at the 2008 Olympic Games for violating anti-doping rules.

Ozkan, 28, came second in the 48kg category in Beijing, but she was caught after the IOC ordered a retest of samples from both the 2008 Games and 2012 Olympics in London, reports Xinhua.

The IOC on Friday asked her to return her medal after she had tested positive for the metabolites of anabolic steroid stanozolol.

Earlier on Friday, the IOC reported 45 new doping cases from the two previous Olympic Games after more than 1,200 samples, notably those of past medal winners, were reanalysed, bringing the total number of positive drug tests to 98.
