With this intention in mind, SMMKC is gearing up to organize a grand Wilfy Nite on November 24 (Thursday) at Sharjah St Michael's parish hall from 7:30 pm onwards.

Wilfy Rebimbus is the pioneer of Konkani music and a legend of Mangaluru. He has been rightly awarded the title of 'Konkan Kogull' (Nightingale of Mangaluru). With over 250 Wilfy Nites, more than 45 music albums and over 2,500 songs composed by him, he is definitely an icon of Konkani music. He has performed in Mangaluru and most of the places in the Konkan area, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Delhi and also in London, various Middle Eastern countries and Canada.

Even after his untimely death, he continues to live in the hearts of Konkani music lovers through his meaningful songs and unforgettable lyrics. The family of the late Wilfy Rebimbus deserves an applause for their courage and dedication to take his legacy forward.

This event will see singers and musicians from Mangaluru, including 'Konkan Myna' Meena Rebimbus, Veena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, Pappan and Joswin Pinto who will be flown in from India and Doha. The show will be anchored by the able and renowned 'Master of Ceremonies' Ronald Olivera. Local singers from the UAE will also lend their voices to a few songs.

The show will have rib-tickling comedy and a variety of power-packed dance performances by local artistes and guaranteed to provide total entertainment to the public.

The evening promises to take all music lovers, especially ardent fans of Wilfy Rebimbus, down memory lane. The troupe will showcase some of their best songs, old and new alike.

SMMKC Sharjah looks forward to welcoming all Konkani music lovers of UAE not only to promote and support Konkani music, but to bring the community together to celebrate the language as one family.

This is a welcome event. It will most of all give the fragrance of the mother tongue to the younger gen born and brought up here. Let the musical richness resound in the little hearts and may the legacy of the great composers be constantly carried on overseas. All the best to the organisers and God bless the rebimbus family.
