Kalaburagi, Aug 20: A woman, angered by the fact that her step-son refused to go with the other children of her husband's first wife to the house of a relative to stay there, tied up his limbs and dumped him into a well. Although the boy was killed nine days back at Kodla in Sedam taluk of the district, the incident came to light on Friday August 19.

Basavaraj Vaddar was searching for his missing son since the last eight days. On Thursday again, the husband-wife duo had fought on the issue of children. During heated exchange of words, Buggamma declared that she had killed her step-son. Basavaraj doubted her statement, went to well and peeped into it but did not find anything as it was night. In the morning on Friday, he found the body of his son floating in water.

After the incident came into the open, villagers tied up the woman to an electric pole and beat her up soundly. At one stage, people were about to crush her with a stone, but some others stopped them and complained to police.

The woman who committed this crime happens to be Buggamma (30), second wife of Basavaraj Vaddar from Kodla village. Mallikarjun (7), last son of Vaddar's first wife, became victim of the anger of his step mother.

It is gathered that after his first wife, Lakshmi, fell ill and died, Vaddar had married poor widow, Buggamma, to ensure that his two sons and a daughter do not suffer for absence of mother. Initially Buggamma behaved well with the children but started to become impatient with them later. Because of this tension, Vaddar had arranged to keep his elder son and daughter in the house of a relative at Donnur. But Mallikarjun was reluctant to stay with the said relative, which had angered Buggamma.

Buggamma initially hit the boy indiscriminately, tethered his limbs with rope, and murdered him by tossing him into well, preliminary inquiries revealed.
