Bantwal: Four sand transportation trucks seized, drivers escape

Bantwal, Sep 23: Two sand-laden trucks which were transporting sand illegally were found by local deputy superintendent of police (DySP) and his team on Wednesday midnight. Both the trucks were confiscated. While one driver was arrested, the other fled from the scene.

When DySP, Raveesh, and his team were checking vehicles at Punjalkatte town, they stopped two sand trucks which came from the direction of the town. It was found that the vehicles did not have any permits or licence to carry sand. One of the driver, Shabbir from Chikkamagaluru, was arrested. During this operation, driver of the other truck, identified as Shariff from Charmadi, made good his escape, policemen said. Both the trucks with loads of sand were handed over Punjalkatte station for further action. Punjalkatte sub-inspector of police, Rama Naik, has undertaken investigation.

The policemen stopped two trucks in which stolen sand was being transported at Manchikatte in Manchi village on Thursday afternoon. Both the drivers, sensing that they were in trouble, ran away, leaving the vehicles there. It is said that the sand, valued at around Rs 45,000, was meant for transportation into Kerala. The trucks had taken internal roads to avoid being noticed by police, but rural station house officer, Rakshit, detected this mischief.

The trucks were handed over to rural police station, said DySP Raveesh.
