Udupi, Oct 6: The district's Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) unit held a meet near Clock Tower here on Wednesday October 5 in order to create awareness among the public about secular India.

Abdul Lathif Puttur addressing the gathering said, "In a secular nation like India, communal activists have violated the entire law system. Without harbouring any religious differences there is need for unity in order to defeat all those anti natonal powers. This is today's need as well."

"India is the only nation known for unity in diversity. There are 12 different national languages and 125 main sub languages in our nation. The nation has a lot of unique resources. Nearly 55% of Hindus, 14% of Muslims, 2.3% minority (christian) community and so on can be seen in our country. It is our fundamental right to have basic infrastructure in the constitution. Everyone should unite in order not to get harmed while building up a secular nation. It is our duty to create awareness on secularism among the Indians. During the pre-independence era people united to attain independence, but now people have to fight towards protecting that independence without taking into account caste, religion and creed," he said.

"Being Indian, at any cost we should be ready to fight against anti-national activists and be ready to pay a high price for protecting the nation. This secular nation is turning towards humanism. Anti-national citizens are getting ready to instal the idol of Nathuram Godse in Meerut. It is nothing but a big tragedy for the nation. No one is taking action against these harmful creatures who are a threat to India," Abdul said.

Continuing his speech he added, "Harassment to Dalits is increasing day by day. Nearly 2000 of the dalit community have been harassed in the state."

In India, cows are worshipped as God, but people are less aware of its death rate. The people come to know its true value only after its death."

Riyaz Parangipete, general secretary, Athulla Jokatte, state committee member, Arid Koteshwar, district president of SDPI, Nazeer, assembly president, Abdul Rehman Malpe, district secretary of Udupi SDPI unit and others were present at the programme.
