In a letter written to the district administration of Dakshina Kannada,  he has condemned the attitude of the government in crushing the popular opinion and going ahead with Tipu Jayanti celebrations.  He has asked the concerned to ensure that his name does not appear in Tipu Jayanti invitation cards or elsewhere relating to the celebrations.

People look at history with a deeply tinted glass and they only see what they want to see (also hear what they want to hear). Tipu Sulthan was not better or worse (at least significantly) than any other conquering horde and the lasting impression may have resulted from the fact that he was the last marauding horde to try to conquer British India. History is one of the things where a deep objective study is needed before forming an opinion, and slavish devotion to anyleader/ideology is a mark of great folly more often than not. Strip them of all their shrouds and look at facts alone. Nothing is black and white, but rather many shades of gray.
