SEWA awards scholarships to 35 deserving students

Mangaluru, Nov 20: Social/Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), a wing of South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association (SKMWA), Muscat distributed scholarships worth Rs 4.25 lac to 35 deserving and talented students in a ceremony held in Jamiyyatul Falah hall at Kankanady here on Saturday, November 19.

The programme commenced with the recitation of the Quran by Muhammad Sadeed, with translation by Ammar Ahsan.

The chief guest was P C Hashir, director of Badria Educational Institution and chairman of PC Group of Industries. Addressing the gathering, he said, "All of us are from different backgrounds but we have come here to help the needy. Islam says that if you help others for the sake of Allah, you will be rewarded. As long as you keep that in mind, you can never become corrupt in life."

Trainer and educationist U H Ummer, founder chairman of Career Counselling, Mangaluru said that every student is talented in his own way. "Today's students lack direction and not talent. All students must have an aim and work hard to achieve it," he said.

It was the tenth consecutive year of distribution of scholarships from SEWA while for SKMWA it was the 30th consecutive year.

Other guests were U K Khalid, general secretary, UNIWEF. Ameen Ahsan, chairman, Ayisha Women's College Uppinangady, Saduddeen Salihi, former president, Jamiyyatul Falah, DK and Udupi, Zubair Shah, executive committee member, Jamiyyatul Falah and Haroon Rasheed, founder member, SKMWA.

All the dignitaries spoke about the importance of education and its role in empowerment and advised the children to act accordingly for their benefit, as well for the community. Special bouquets were also presented to toppers of 2nd PUC 2016 namely Khazi Tasmiya Samreen, Hoode, who secured 98.33% and M Ayisha, Beltangady, who secured 97.17%.

All the dignitaries appreciated the sincere effort, involvement and commitment of SEWA / SKMWA Muscat in the field of education and community service.

The welcome address was delivered by A K Muhiuddeen, founder president of SEWA and advisor, SKMWA Muscat. Moomin Muhiuddeen and Fazil Azeez supported and coordinated in conducting the programme.

Scholarships were distributed to 35 students out of which 17 were boys and 18 girls, hailing from DK and Udupi districts for the 3-year degree and diploma courses by giving a sum of Rs 12,000 for each student per year.

The function was attended by dignitaries, students and their families.
