Doha: Mother-daughter duo wins ICC Championships

Doha, Dec 20: The grand finale of the ICC Communication Championships 2016 saw Sara Tariq being crowned the Champion Speaker in the inspirational category.

A week earlier in the schools / gavel clubs inspirational category, Sana''s daughter Aania Raheem Shah had bagged the Champion Trophy.

The contests being hosted by ICC ONE in association with the DPS Modern Indian School saw a tremendous response from the Qatari and expatriate community. As part of its commitment to the community to promote communication and leadership skills, ICC-ONE has successfully hosted these contests for a record 13 years.

The event had Doha Bank as the gold sponsor. The event was supported by a host of silver, bronze and general sponsors.

The grand finale at the Giwana Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Hotel saw the packed audience enthralled by the humorous speeches and inspirational speeches of the short-listed 6 contestants in each category.

The humorous category hosted by Nahar Almutawah saw Deepak Shivankar being crowned the Humour Champion of Qatar. His speech titled ''Who Said It'' was a hilarious narration of the problems he faced when he tried to abide by inspirational quotes. He besieged the audience to try out the quotes in their life before forwarding it to others. The second placed winner was Sarita Jacob. Her speech titled ''Not Fair'' was a comical description of her depression and various suicide attempts because life had not been fair to her. The third placed winner, Ashfaque Deshmukh humorously presented various facets of telling lies in a speech titled ''Liar Liar, Pants on Fire''.

The inspirational speech category hosted by Abdullah Hamdan saw Sara Tariq being crowned the Inspirational Champion of Qatar. In her speech called ''A Rare Breed'', she said that real men are a rare breed and that they are not born but must be raised by teaching young boys to respect and protect women from a very early age. The II placed winner Nisha Shivram in her speech titled ''The Price Tag'' spoke on the importance of pursuing dreams and not letting anyone put a price tag on one''s dreams. She inspired the audience by her personal factual story of competing in the pre-qualifiers while pregnant, delivering the next day and competing in the final on the 19th day after delivery. The III placed winner Arjun Prabha Kumar spoke on the topic ''Ring,Ring...We have a Problem’. He spoke on addiction to social media and presented tips to prevent mobile phone addiction.

The master of ceremonies was Muneera Al Shriem who anchored the complete event with her peppy, motivating and lively comments.

The presentation party comprised Nahar Almutawwa, CEO of Qatar Cool, Khalid Al Qahtani, Principal Ibn Khaldoon Preparatory Boys School, Yasir Nainar, Vice President, DPS Modern Indian School, Asna Nafees, Principal DPS Modern Indian School, Israfil, CEO KEMCO EDGE Facilities Management, Farukh Sardar, general manager Mannai Air Travels, M I Farid, founder convenor and Ravi Kumar, chief coordinator.

The other three contestants who did not figure in the top 3 were given consolation prizes.

All the winners received trophies, prizes, gifts and cash awards.

The audience enjoyed the complimentary lucky draw where 10 prizes were drawn. The evening culminated with a sumptuous dinner where vegetarians were well taken care of. All attendees had only words of praise for the contestants and organizers.
