Kenyan Wambui seeks Semenya's scalp in athletics Worlds

Nairobi, Jan 28 (IANS): There will be no love lost when Olympic 800 metres bronze medallist Margaret Wambui of Kenya meets South African Caster Semenya in the Diamond League or Athletics World Championships in 2017.

Though Semenya beat Wambui to the gold in Rio, the Kenyan youth, 22, is plotting a new strategy to end the reign of the 26-year-old South African, reports Xinhua.

"The Olympic Games marked my first time to compete against her. It was a remarkable experience during which I learnt she was a better runner than me, which has forced me to go back to the drawing board," she said on Friday.

Alongside Semenya, Wambui notes that there is a chance 2016 Olympic silver medal winner, Burundi's Francine Niyonsaba can stage a surprise and she should be on guard against it.

"The 800m race is a strong competition with new people coming up every time. But there is this Burundian girl, she is strong and I hope to challenge her," she said.
