Mangalore, Mar 9: "Everyone must realize the significance of patriotic values. Encouraging everyone to imbibe the spirit of patriotism is the need of the hour," opined colonel N Sharat Bhandary, ex-service man of the Indian Army.

He was speaking on the topic 'How patriotism can be made effective' on the occasion of 'International Women's Day Celebration', hosted jointly by Lioness Club of Kankanady-Padil and Rushi Samskruthi Vidyakendra, Mangalore here at the Lion's Seva Mandir near Kadri on Saturday March 8.

The late president John F Kennedy rightly said that top priority should be given by every one to his or her nation. This indicates the significance of the patriotism. Promoting motivating factors of patriotism such as religion, culture, custom, philosophy, discipline education and awareness are just a few examples in this regard, Bhandary informed.

Violation of law and playing the regionalism card amount to anti-nationalism and youngsters and children must be guarded against these and from being misguided by their 'role models' particularly with regard to patriotic values, he cautioned.

Sucharita Shetty, president of DK Zilla Panchayat presided over the programme. Dr Annaih Kulal of Kannada Hita Rakshana Samiti (KHRS), Dr Mohan Singh lecturer at Srinivas College, Dr Krupa Amar Alva and others were present on the occasion.
