Mangalore, Mar 10: The contribution of foreigners to Karnataka folklore is exceptional, but those who study such contributions should neither exaggerate nor discard them, said Ambalike Hiriyanna, faculty of Mysore University.

He was delivering the valedictory address at the 34th Karnataka Janapada Sammelan held at Sahodaya auditorium of Karnataka Theosophical College, Balmatta here on Sunday March 9.

Propagation of religion might be the contributing factor that prompted foreigners to take up folklore studies, but it became academic discipline subsequently. Thus, foreigners strenthened the foundation of the Karnataka folklore with unique contributions like professionalism and systematic methodology, he said.

The concluding ceremony was chaired by Dr Shalini Raghunath, faculty of Dharwad University. The occasion was graced by Prof Amrut Someshwar, folklore scholar. Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla, director of city All India Radio and others were present on the occasion.
