Mumbai, Mar 29 (PTI): A squad of about 190 CISF commandos today took over security of the Navi Mumbai-based Reliance Corporate IT Park as part of an armed cover against terror and other sabotage threats to the facility.
The Union Home Ministry recently sanctioned the deployment of the central paramilitary force at the facility after a security audit and survey in this regard was recently concluded.
A ceremonial event was held at the facility here and the CISF flag was unfurled in the presence of senior officials of the force and that of the corporate firm.
Vehicle-borne mobile 'morchas' were also flagged off which will be used by armed commandos to patrol the campus.
"A little more than 190 CISF men have been deployed at the unit that will be headed by a Deputy Commandant rank officer," a senior officer said today.
The Reliance Corporate IT Park Limited is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and is located within the Reliance Corporate Park campus in Ghansoli area of Navi Mumbai.
The facility would be the second Reliance unit to get Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security cover after RIL's refinery in Jamnagar in Gujarat.
This induction makes it the ninth private sector unit in the country that enjoys the security cover of the paramilitary.
Reliance Corporate IT Park deals in businesses related to information technology, business processing and some Reliance-backed 'Start Up' projects. It is thronged by lakhs of people including staff and visitors.
The CISF was asked to secure the facility after the Home Ministry reviewed reports prepared by central security agencies and local police about possible terror and sabotage threats faced by the facility and its standing as an economic powerhouse and employment provider.
The commandos to be posted at the facility will be deployed in a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) pattern as part of which they keep vigil from vantage positions using sophisticated weapons and vehicles for swift movement, officials said.
The regular entry and exit will be manned by private security guards provided by the company that will also pay for the security cover and arrange for the boarding facilities of the these central security personnel, they said.
