Udupi: Two pro vice chancellors appointed for Manipal University

Udupi, Mar 31: Two new pro vice chancellors have been appointed to Manipal University. They are, Dr Poornima Baliga, dean of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal. She will be in charge of the department of health sciences. Director of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Dr Gopalakrishna Prabhu, has been made pro vice chancellor for technology and management department.

The new re-structuring and appointments have been made to enable the university to make giant strikes in global ranking. "During the last two years, the university has undergone lot of changes and developments. We are planning to maintain this progress and achieve further development. To support these efforts, the above two appointments have been made effective April 1 this year," said vice chancellor of the university, Dr H Vinod Bhat.

Both the appointees will shoulder responsibilities along with the ones they have been vested with currently. KMC Manipal, dental college, Melaka medical college Manipal, nursing college, college of applied health sciences, life sciences, community health, statistics, virus research, library and information science departments fall under health sciences department. MIT, college of architecture, ICAS Manipal, SOM, WelcomegroupGraduate School of Hotel Administration allied hospitality studies, culinary arts, commerce and some other divisions will fall under technology department.
