Gremio rout Chapecoense in Brazil's Serie A


Rio de Janeiro, Jun 9 (IANS): Second-half substitute Everton scored a hat-trick as Brazilian football club Gremio rose to second in the country's Serie A standings with a 6-3 away victory over Chapecoense.

Brazil under-23 international Luan was also on target while midfielder Michel bagged a brace, including a stunning shot from the edge of the halfway circle on Thursday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Luiz Antonio, Reinaldo and Arthur Caike were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

The result at Conda Arena left Gremio with 12 points, just a point behind leaders Corinthians. Chapecoense dropped to fifth, three points off the pace.

In other matches on Thursday, Atletico Goianiense beat Ponte Preta 3-0, Sao Paulo won 2-0 at home to Vitoria and Bahia overcame Cruzeiro 1-0.
