Iran claims freestyle wrestling title in Asian championship


Tehran, Jun 19 (IANS): Iranian freestyle wrestlers produced an emphatic performance to finish on top at the Junior Asian Wrestling Championship.

The Iranian team won three gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes, claiming the title with 69 points, Xinhua news agency quoted the Tehran Times as saying.

Uzbekistan finished second with 67 points and Kazakhstan third with 57 points.

Also, Iran put in impressive performances by claiming the Greco-Roman title on Saturday.

The young Iranian wrestlers notched 71 points to stand atop the podium by a wide margin in the team division.

The four-day tournament, which concluded on Sunday, brought together dozens of male and female freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers from Asian countries including China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea and Uzbekistan.
