Bengaluru: After saying no to Hindi, KDA now wants non-Kannadigas' jobs to be cut

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jul 30: After protests to stop using signages in Hindi language in Namma Metro, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) now wants non-Kannadigas who work in the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), to be relieved from their duty.

KDA chairman S G Siddaramaiah who inspected the metro facilities on Tuesday, highlighted in his letter to BMRCL, Chief Minister and Top State officials that a large number of staff employed for security and cleaning purposes are non Kannadigas.

Terming it as a violation of the Sarojini Mahishi report, he said that according to the 1986 report, Kannadigas should be granted 100 per cent reservation in state and public sector jobs. Not only that, the watchmen and cleaner jobs in private sector should also be reserved for Kannadigas. However, no government has so far implemented the recommendation in full.

S G Siddaramaiah also questioned the appointment of seven chief engineers from outside the state. Though Karnataka has many engineering colleges and churns out capable engineers, why should Non Kannadigas be in these coveted posts, he questioned asking BMRCL to relive these engineers.

However, BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said that hiring had been done purely on the basis of technical capabilities of person.

The Engineers come under the group A job category, and require particular skill sets. Many of them are deputed from other government departments like the Railways.

However, Kharola said that the corporation would try to employ more local people in future.

KDA Secretary K Muralidhar explains that Kannadiga doesn't mean a person whose mother tongue is Kannada. Instead, the state government has defined Kannadiga as anyone who has lived in Karnataka for 15 years and speaks, reads and writes Kannada.

"When we say Kannadigas, anyone from Karnataka, irrespective of his or her mother tongue, falls in that bracket. Karnataka has been very liberal, welcoming people from every state. But let's not forget our own people who need jobs. We want that the natives of Karnataka to get first preference in these jobs," Muralidhar added.

When state is developing in a fast phase then you have to set some rules in employing people. It is inexperience of the government in handling the issue and it is trying to get political mileage by lighting the fire to the core issue. It is a simple issue by setting some percentage i.e 60 to 65 % to the locals by strict order. Government is trying to divide the people by creating hate among the people like Sivsena did in 1970's.

Same was the situation in Mumbai in the 60s and early 70s. All jobs in the city from top to bottom were filled by Mallus when all South Indians were commonly called Madrasis. This gave rise to Bal Thackeray's Shiv Sena to fight for the cause of Maharashtrians and Congress vehemently opposed it fearing loss of vote bank. Now the same party in Karnataka seems to do like the Senas did in Maharashtra.

The problem is still the same. It is not the origin of the people but language spoken is the problem. Even at Mangalore Airport the ground staff starts talking to you in Hindi never mind the security. If people speak 3 languages there should be no problem.

Arrey, one more point here - Karnataka has plans to not to give jobs to non-Kannadigas / North Indians which they have already started as in the above news. Now let us assume, as a revenge if any state has to cut jobs / avoid giving jobs to Kannadigas working in North - then which state it will be ?? Frankly, None!! Why because Hindi is a Universally accepted language across India however states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh etc widely use Hindi for their communications.

Hi, If you happen to visit any hospital or train station in Mangalore or Bangalore, the most common language is Malyalam. Most of the staff are from Kerala. Infact they will start the conversation with you in Malyalam. I had to many times tell them, I dont understand Malayalam and they then make a big face, as if we are supposed to learn it by default.

Similalarly if you go to any Interview for a Job in IT capital Bangalore, most HR people are from North India Speaking Hindi. Sometimes you will not understand certain Hindi words as they speak very fast. They give preference to Hindi speaking candidates from North India. Highly qualified and experienced people from Karnataka are without jobs due to overflow of north indian people and people from other states.

The first step government should take is that all HR and clerical jobs should be reserved for first local people and local talent. There is no shortage of local talent. Only it has been taken over by north indians and now local people find hard to get jobs.

Even the low end jobs like drivers, security guard and cleaner jobs are gone. Local people have no jobs. Please some one help local people of karanataka. Jai Karnataka.

    Thanks.

Siddhu just open your passport and check what is typed on your nationality. It is India so Indians have the right to work in any state, All Indians have the right to work and its high time to remove Reservations on casts. Reservations was misused by the Congress for the political gains and even after 70 years it is followed. Instead of playing all the gimmicks work for the benefit of the people.

Thanks to KDA for supporting local people of Karnataka. All jobs in Bangalore are taken by North Indians. All HR managers in 95% companies in Bangalore are from North India and giving preference to North Indians. So many local people in Bangalore without jobs. Local people should be given preference and training. Thanks.
