America's King breaks women's 50m breaststroke world record


Budapest, Jul 31 (IANS): Lilly King of the United States broke the women's 50 metre breaststroke world record with 29.40 seconds at the 17th FINA World Championships here on Sunday.

The previous record was owned by Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania at 29.48 in 2013, reports Xinhua news agency.

It was King's third gold medal in Budapest after 100m breaststroke and mixed 4x100m medley relay.

Yuliya Efimova of Russia finished runner-up with 29.57 seconds, while the bronze went to Katie Meili of the United States at 29.99.
