Puttur: Harassment, rape attempt - accused held

Puttur, Aug 24: In an incident which happened near Mukwe in the outskirts of the town, a person tried to rape a lady. Police personnel of the town station here arrested Muhammed Zakaria (34) relating to this incident on Wednesday August 23 and produced him in court.

It is said that since a few days Zakaria has habitually followed the lady, a college student. On Tuesday evening, while on her walk, he wrote a number on a piece of paper and handed it to her. Reportedly, the piece of paper also contained money. The man has also been accused of trying to pull away the lady by holding her hand.

The lady complained to the police, on the basis of which Zakaria was arrested. During police inquiry, they found out that the girl student had informed her collegemates and some locals about the fact that the said youth was stalking her for some time.

The court remanded the accused to 15 days judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
