Silvester D'Souza
Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (EP)

Kundapur, Aug 26: A minor scuffle broke out between youths of different communities during Ganeshotsava rally at Jogur in Byndoor here on Friday, August 25.

A procession was being carried out with the idol of Lord Ganesh which taken for installation from Venkatramana temple, Dasavadi to Shankernarayana temple premises in Jogur. The trouble began when the rally which was proceeding on the public road near Bukari colony mosque, Shiroor was allegedly waylaid by residents identified as Younus, Samir, Faeek, Ilyas Usman Saheb, Yasin and Samil.

It is reported that Younus, Samir and Ilyas Usman Saheb held stones and footwear in their hands and warned the members of the procession not to carry out the rally on the road. It is said that they threatened to set fire to the vehicle if procession proceeded on the road, and warned against holding such procession in future.

A case was registered at Byndoor police station on the basis of complaint received from Ganeshotsava Samiti president Vinayak Jogur.

Bajrang Dal to protest on August 28

Right-wing outfit Bajrang Dal has called for a protest condemning Friday's incident. The protest will be held on August 28 at 3 pm at Byndoor circle.

Shahid Bhai....What is this logic of "x"street u cannot enter & "Y" street you cannot enter. All Indians are free to go anywhere in the country abiding by the law. Is there a law which states Ganapathi cannot go in front of mosque ?

Wait for few days & you will see innumerable cases all over India where Ganesh processions, Durga pooja processions are stoned. Vote bank politics has stooped so low that Durga idol immersion has been cancelled by a lady for one full day because it fell on the day of Muharram. Why this intolerance??

Every Friday afternoon we see roads being blocked at many places all over India. We don't disturb them because we feel its not right to disturb a praying person who is near to God. But where is the reciprocal? If we celebrate our devotion by procession you should be welcoming it. What is the reason to be angry if it passes in front of a mosque? Ultimately its one god....

    Shetty,
I would like to mention an activity happened in our locality just few days ago.
There was a program by Sangh Parivar in the town.
Sangh boys where doing some kind of canvasing for the program in a pickup truck with slogans and songs on loud speaker.
When the approached our area which is 100% Muslims residential area they halted there in front of Masjid for few minutes with slogans and songs etc.,
No one came out, so, they left without creating any problem. This is called "Tolerance"
But, we decided to fix CCTV cameras in our locality for the safety and evidences.
So, I request all religious places must install CCTC cameras with voice recording.

Since years this procession was carrying from high way road then reaching to their destination,
since last year they entered through muslim street cracking fire crakers and shouting slogans in front of musjid , where there is no any hindu houses located .
but I strongly condemn the act of some muslim's youth, for try to stop them evon though they carry through muslim street, at the same time our hindu brothers also should under stand ,when they have easy excess to their destination purposely entering muslim steet to creat trouble is not good for both .

It is better for the Bajrang Dal & other outfits to carry out a similar procession immediately with the approval from their concerned community instead of calling out a protest. Don't take the other community for granted even if they are in majority over there. Need to teach these trouble makers a lesson.

Where is my childhood days when there was no religion but love, peace and unity. Our house is surrounded by Brahmins, Billavas, Shettys. We all were like one family. If someone is sick in any of the families, we all were there even in the midnight. During Hindu festivals, there was a competition among our neighbors as to who will be first to deliver Moode, Chakkuli, olige to us. During Parish feast, Christmas we used to invite all our neighbors (of course Brahmins were offered tender coconut and fruits) to have meal together. It is very, very heartening to see present situation. Neighbor is looking at neighbor with suspicion and hatred. How successfully the politicians have spread the virus of hatred among us. Because of 10% of evil people, 90% people have lost their faith and love for fellow Indian. When and who will put an end to this and bring back those days of love, peace, unity.

I don't perceive why the procession on a public road near Bukari colony via mosque road cannot be moved and why they were stopped or threatened.

I quote from the new: the rally which was proceeding on the public road near Bukari colony mosque, Shiroor was allegedly waylaid by residents identified as Younus, Samir, Faeek, Ilyas Usman Saheb, Yasin and Samil. Unquote.

If the above is true i blame Younus, Samir, Faeek, Ilyas Usman Saheb, Yasin and Samil for threatening the procession on a public road.

NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO THREATEN OR STOP A PROCESSION ON A PUBLIC ROAD WITHOUT HALTING MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES.

but many times i observed such processions when it reach in front of mosques or other religious establishments some drunken goons shout and act like crazy.. stoppin there for few minuits shouting unwanted slogans..making music even more louder and trying to vomit their frustration which could provoke others..
Any sensible person can feel the deference btwn processions of today's and 20 year ago. wondering this is how they practice their faiths..

Recently, in the Congress internal survey, they said they will 'lose many' seats in Coastal districts...If these kinds of incidents instigate Hindus, then there is possibility of the majority community totally alienating Congress minority appeasement politics.

Four people with stones and footwear in hand managed to stop a procession of hundreds of people which usually also has police on stand-by? They had stones or bombs in their hands? Should we believe this story? These youth have s much guts that too in a place where they are a miniscule minority? Since when stone and footwear became as powerful as bombs that these can be used to waylay a procession of hundreds of people? Hate mongers! There are deliberate moves to waylay general public and pain a particular community in bad light.

While the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi as a religious festival has been since time immemorial, the concept of celebrating it as a public event (Ganesh Utsav) is a relatively recent phenomenon. The history of Ganesh Utsav traces back to the early 1890s when freedom struggle in India was still in infancy and limited only among the elite club of Congress.
It was the time when Lokamanya Tilak declared Swaraj as the national goal and sought the participation of masses but soon realized that India was deeply divided along the lines of castes. There was severe animosity among castes (especially between Brahmins & non-Brahmins) and it was high time such differences were resolved so that everybody would be united for a common cause (of freedom struggle). With these ideas in mind, Tilak hit upon the plan of gathering masses for the purpose of celebrating a festival annually which would turn forge the feeling of communal and linguistic harmony. Since Lord Ganesha was adored by people of all castes, Tilak started the tradition of Sarvajanik Ganesha Utsav where a clay idol of Ganesh would be installed in public places in Bombay.
After witnessing the success of such public gatherings, Tilak spread the idea to towns around Bombay and subsequently to other regions of India as well. Ganesh Utsav Mandals were formed in each town to collect funds & organize such events, and by 1905, it had become a nationwide celebration.
Unfortunately Ganesh Chaturthi which was suppose to united the nation is now been used by Sangh Parivar to divide the nation deliberately routing the procession in an areas to provocative the other religion.
Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, these fanatics using it as barrier between the societies.
How long our Hindu brothers will take to understand the motive of Sangh Parivar which hijack the real meaning of festivities? After Lord Rama now Lord Ganesha, why they don't question the politics in festivities?
    Jai Hind
