Mangaluru: DC orders closure of liquor shops during immersion processions

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner has ordered closure of liquor shops in areas through which immersion ceremonies pertaining to Vinayaka Chaturthi pass through. This has been done in order to maintain peace and order during the festivities.

During the period up to September 2, various immersion processions will take place at different places pertaining to taking idols of worshipped Ganesha in procession to water bodies and immersing the idols there, till September 2.

As thousands of people are expected to gather at each of these ceremonies, consumption of intoxicants can give rise to trouble. As a precautionary measure against such incidents, order to close liquor shops has been issued, the office of the deputy commissioner clarified.
