Mangaluru: Four schools from coast among eight in state getting cleanliness award

Mangaluru, Aug 28: Eight government schools in the state including two from Udupi and two more from Dakshina Kannada district have been chosen for the national level Swachh Vidyalaya awards. They have come out successful in the National Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar competition organized by education and literacy department under the union ministry of human resources.

The competition had covered primary and middle schools in urban and rural sections in order to motivate cleanliness and develop the habit of maintaining cleanliness.

At the state level, 20 schools from primary section and 20 from middle level had been chosen for national level competition. In the final analysis, two schools from Udupi district, two from Dakshina kannada, and one each from Kodagu, Mysuru, Bengaluru city (south) and Hassan covering three primary and five middle schools have been declared winners.

The schools were assessed on the basis of water, toilet, habit of washing hands with soap, good method of functioning and management, change in behaviour and improved capacity.

Sooda Government Higher Primary School in Karkala taluk secured 84 percent marks in rural middle school, while Sundar Puranik Government High School, Peruvaje, Karkala taluk, got 81 percent in urban middle school level. Annasandra Government School from Bengaluru city (south) got award by securing 90 percent in urban primary section, with SKP government school at Agrahara, Hassan district, getting 76 percent.

In the rural middle school department, Sooribail Government Higher Primary School got 76 percent marks with Government Higher Primary School, Nadugodu, getting 77 percent. In rural middle school level, Badragola Hebbale Government Lower Primary School in Kodagu district got 83.2 percent marks. Under urban middle school level, Composite Junior College, Kuvempunagar, Mysuru, got 81 percent marks.

A total of 643 schools from various states had been chosen for national level, and finally 172 were selected for the said award. 11 districts which accounted for highest prize winning schools under the scheme have got special recognition.
